Childcare and After-School Programs

The public school day is 5 hours. It usually begins at 8 am at the earliest and ends at 3 pm at the latest. Parents who work outside the home usually need someone to care for their children before or after school.

Before and After School Program

The Before and After School Program is for children aged 4 to 12. There is a fee for this program. There are several schools in Truro and Colchester County that offer this program.

BCG Club

The BCG Club of Truro and Colchester is for children aged 5 to 18. It is open at these times:

  • weekdays after school
  • some evenings
  • some weekends
  • full days when there is no school

The Province of Nova Scotia provides a searchable database of child care facilities. To find one in your area, type “Directory of licensed child care facilities Nova Scotia” into your search engine. Complete the online form. You will see a list of child care facilities. When you click on the name of a facility, you will see their phone number. You can then call to see if that facility meets your needs.
