Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester

Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs children and youth with adult mentors. Mentorship happens in school and in the community.

BGC Truro and Colchester

The BGC is a place for children and youth to grow. The club helps young people to do these things:

  • experience new opportunities
  • overcome barriers
  • build positive relationships
  • develop confidence and life skills

The Lotus Centre

The Lotus Centre is a women’s resource centre that offers help and services to women and their families. They provide free personal care items and clothes to women in need. They also offer programs for youth and adults.

Nova Scotia Child Welfare Services – Colchester County

Child welfare services in Nova Scotia have 3 main functions:

  • to intervene in cases of child abuse or neglect
  • to place children in foster care and support them
  • to place children in care for adoption

If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected you can report it in one of 3 ways:

  1. Call 1-888-919-4236 during business hours.
  2. Call 1-866-922-2434 after business hours if you think a child is in immediate danger.
  3. Visit the Colchester District Office at 60 Lorne St. in Truro.

Maggie’s Place Family Resource Centre

Maggie’s Place offers a variety of programs and supports for families and children. These are some of the programs and supports they offer:

  • prenatal, postnatal, and breastfeeding support
  • family meal kits and cooking workshops
  • free used children’s clothes, books, and toys

Schools Plus offers government programs and services at public schools across Nova Scotia. They offer services in these areas:
